چکیده

Active set methods based on the augmented Lagrangian smoothing of nondiier-entiable optimization problems that arise in image restoration are discussed. One-dimensional image restoration problem and two diierent formulations for two-dimensional image restoration problem are given. Both nonmonotone and monotone active set algorithms are described and nite step convergence of the algorithms is considered. New, direct way for solving the constrained optimization problem that appears in the inner iteration of the monotone algorithms is presented. Several numerical examples are included.

Nonmonotone globalization of inexact finite-difference Newton-iterative methods for nonlinear equations

In this paper we study nonmonotone globalization techniques, in connection with finite-difference inexact Newton-GMRES methods, for solving large-scale systems of nonlinear equations in the case that the Jacobian matrix is not available. We first define a globalization scheme, which combines nonmonotone watchdog rules and nonmonotone derivative-free line searches, and we prove its global conver...

A Robust Strucutural Fingerprint Restoration

Fast and accurate ridge detection in fingerprints is essential to each AFIS (Automatic Fingerprint Identification System). Smudged furrows and cut ridges in the image of a finger print are major problems in any AFIS. This paper investigates a new online ridge detection method that reduces the complexity and costs associated with the fingerprint identification procedure. The noise in fingerprint...

A Nonmonotone Line Search Technique and Its Application to Unconstrained Optimization

A new nonmonotone line search algorithm is proposed and analyzed. In our scheme, we require that an average of the successive function values decreases, while the traditional nonmonotone approach of Grippo, Lampariello, and Lucidi [SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 23 (1986), pp. 707–716] requires that a maximum of recent function values decreases. We prove global convergence for nonconvex, smooth function...

Image Restoration by Variable Splitting based on Total Variant Regularizer

The aim of image restoration is to obtain a higher quality desired image from a degraded image. In this strategy, an image inpainting method fills the degraded or lost area of the image by appropriate information. This is performed in such a way so that the obtained image is undistinguishable for a casual person who is unfamiliar with the original image. In this paper, different images are degr...

Pruning for Monotone Classification Trees

For classification problems with ordinal attributes very often the class attribute should increase with each or some of the explanatory attributes. These are called classification problems with monotonicity constraints. Standard classification tree algorithms such as CART or C4.5 are not guaranteed to produce monotone trees, even if the data set is completely monotone. We look at pruning based ...
